April 3 2013 – Max Renkel

Location: Rione Parione, various locations

An encounter seen as a metropolitan walk, between science and anecdotes. A useful exploration to understand the possibilities of modifying one’s own perception with regard to a complex entity such as the city of Rome, taking its oldest, most overlayed and complex body as its object of contemplation: the old town centre. The walk will also become an occasion to resolve one or more practical problems, with hints towards a number of contemporary strategies.

Max Renkel is a German artist and collector who has lived in Rome for many years. A polymorphous artist, Renkel is in dialogue with the tradition of painting and drawing in a personal style, between abstract and figurative, focusing on the rapport between shape and colour. Beyond his artistic activity, Renkel owns and collects in a quasi-maniacal fashion photographs, art books and ephemera connected to various themes and subjects. It is in fact due to this spontaneous and constant activity that, although a foreigner, Renkel has traced his own map of the city of Rome over time.
