Pratica del luogo (Practice of Place) Luca Vitone began in 1992 to use food as his means of expression in order to set up certain investigations into places. In 1997, with Liberi Tutti! (Everyone Free! ), he created an itinerary to discover the more marginal places of the urban space of Rome, referencing the history of the anarchic movement. For OPEN DOORS ROMA Vitone decides to return to the theme of material culture by looking at the city through the filter of food: to meet sitting around a table, in a convivial way, offers the opportunity to experience a journey of knowledge within a collective memory. A conversation is articulated through food as a way of mapping historical and personal journeys.
Luca Vitone’s work challenges the entirety of the mechanisms that connect contemporary people, subjected to continuous transformations, to their place of origin and the environment with which they enter into relation. After abandoning traditional modes of artistic expression, Vitone chose to think of his works, which are often actions or installations, with instruments that are typical of other disciplines, such as geography, anthropology, sociology, music and literature. In general in his work there is a constant attempt at identifying the way in which it might be possible to represent the legacy of a tradition or of a particular historical or social event today.
